The U.S. Women’s National Basketball Team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, one step closer to winning its eighth consecutive title.

Led by Eiza Wilson (20 points) and Jackie Young (15 points), the U.S. defeated Nigeria 88-72 in the Olympic Women’s Basketball Quarterfinals at the Bercy Arena in Paris, France on Monday (Feb. 8).

The U.S. advanced to the semifinals with a 59-game winning streak dating back to the 1992 Barcelona Games and will face Australia in the final.

If the USA Women’s Basketball team wins in Paris, they will have won eight consecutive titles dating back to Atlanta 1996, the longest winning streak in team history.

Nigeria beat Australia in the group stage of this year’s Olympics for their first Olympic victory since Athens 2004, but were unable to advance further as they were stopped by the United States.

The Aussies were led by Alana Smith (22 points) and Jade Melbourne (18 points) in an 85-67 win over Serbia to reach the quarterfinals.

Australia, ranked No. 3 in the world, will be looking for a medal at the tournament after winning bronze at the 2012 London Olympics.

The quarterfinal matchup between the United States and Australia will take place at 0:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Host France defeated Germany 84-71 behind solid defense.

France’s best finish at the tournament was a silver medal in London 2012 and a bronze medal in Tokyo last year.

France stifled Germany with strong defense, forcing 13 turnovers that led to 12 second-chance points.

Germany lost despite 20 points and 13 rebounds from Niala Sabali (New York Liberty), who plays in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), in her return from a concussion injury.

Belgium advanced to the Olympic quarterfinals for the first time with a 79-66 victory over favored Spain, led by Emma Messeman (19 points).

Spain had retired National Basketball Association (NBA) star and current International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Pau Gasol cheering them on from off the court, but it was a disappointing end to their Olympic campaign.

The semifinal match between Belgium and France will be played at 4 a.m. on Tuesday. 파워볼사이트
