Samsung Fire, which finished last in professional volleyball last season, jumped to second place after sweeping OK Financial Group.

Samsung Fire defeated OK Financial Group 3-0 (25-23 25-21 25-19) in straight sets in the men’s Dodram 2023-2024 V-League at Chungmu Gymnasium in Daejeon on Sunday to extend their winning streak to three games.

Samsung Fire improved to 3-1-1 and 8 points, dropping OK Financial Group (2-1-1 and 5 points) to second place.

Samsung Fire easily took the first set behind a strong performance from foreign player Yosvani Hernandez (registered name Yosvani).

Yosvani scored 13 points in the first set alone, including seven points from behind.

He followed up with a kill at 24-23 to end the set himself.

In the second set, domestic players backed up Yosvani.

Kim Jun-woo had five points, including two fastballs, while Kim Jung-ho and Park Sung-jin combined for eight points on the wings.

OK Financial Group self-destructed with a shaky defense that resulted in a second-set receiving efficiency of just 23.81%.

After taking the second set 25-21, Samsung Fire closed out the match in the third set.

Outside hitter Kim Jeong-ho set the tone with back-to-back open attacks at 7-5, before blocking an attack by opposite hitter Kang Jung-min.

After Samsung Fire scored three consecutive points, OK Financial Group was shaken. Kang Jeong-min even committed an over net error.

With the gap in the score, OK Financial Group didn’t face any major crisis after that and took the three points.

Yosubani was the top scorer for both teams with 27 points, while Kim Jung-ho had 15 points and Park Sung-jin had nine points.

In the women’s match at Gwangju Pepper Stadium, visiting GS Caltex came from behind to defeat Pepper Savings Bank in a full-set thriller, 3-2 (21-25 23-25 25-20 25-19 15-12).

GS Caltex has won three straight matches since the opening day to stay in third place with 8 points.

Fifth-ranked Pepper Savings Bank dropped a close match and could only add one point.

GS Caltex had a tough match.

At 21-23 in the first set, they lost the set easily after a service error by Oh Se-yeon and an attack error by Kang So-hwi, and at 23-23 in the second set, they conceded back-to-back points to their opponent, Yasmin Bedard (registered name Yasmin), to go down 0-2 in the set.

GS Caltex, who were in a deep deficit, started to find some life in the third set when their silent Korean attacker Kang So-hwi came to life.

Kang led the offense with six points in the third set alone. With the ball distributed, foreign player Giselle Silva (real name Silva) also found her way.

Pepper Savings Bank faltered badly in the third set, posting a 9.09% receiving efficiency, and GS Caltex took advantage of the opportunity.

Set 4 was more of the same. Kang and Silva combined for 14 points.

Pepper Savings Bank’s receiving efficiency still dropped to 27.27%. GS Caltex’s receiving efficiency was 40.00% in the third set and 63.16% in the fourth.

GS Caltex took advantage of a shaky Pepperdine defense in the final five sets.

At 13-10, Silva hit a timed attack, and again at 14-12, Silva slammed the ball down the other court to end the match.

Silva finished with 40 points, while Kang So-hwi added 25. 파워볼분석
