The Ulsan Hyundai Mobis snapped Seoul SK’s winning streak and won their third straight game.
Hyundai Mobis defeated SK 78-67 in their 2023-2024 regular season home game at Ulsan Dongcheon Gymnasium on Sunday, with five players scoring in double figures, including Kebe Aluma (20 points).
With their third straight win, Hyundai Mobis moved into sole possession of first place in the standings, while SK suffered its first loss after three straight victories and dropped to fourth.
SK was missing Jamil Warney, who leads the team in scoring at 30.4 points per game.
SK explained that Warney has a minor injury but was left out of the lineup to give him a rest.
Hyundai Mobis took the lead in the first half thanks to its bench members.
Signing Jin (11 points), who started the game off the bench, scored nine points in the first half with three three-pointers. Aluma also contributed seven points to help the team build a 39-34 lead.
Conserving energy from the bench, the Hyundai Mobis starters began to pull away in the third quarter.
Gage Prim (14 points) and Lee Woo-seok (15 points) scored from beyond the arc, while Ham Ji-hoon (11 points) added a three-pointer.
SK, on the other hand, couldn’t find anyone to fill Warney’s void.
Oh Se-geun (6 points) didn’t score his first points until a free throw with 1:24 left in the third quarter.
Entering the fourth quarter with a 49-36 lead, Hyundai Mobis sparked a run with a one-handed dunk by Aluma to make it 64-51 with 7:56 left in regulation.
SK called its final shot clock with 5:10 left to play.
SK pulled to within six points, 62-68, on a layup by Gomez Deliano (10 points) with 3:24 to play to keep Hyundai Mobis on their toes.
However, Hyundai Mobis put out the fire with one free throw from Iluma and a layup from Lee Woo-seok and never trailed again.
It was a back-and-forth affair at the Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium in Seoul as both teams looked for their first win of the season.
The Seoul Samsung outlasted the Goyang Sono by 20 points, 98-78, behind a 33-point performance from Kofi Coburn.
The win improves Samsung’s record to 1-1 after opening the season with their first victory. Sono, meanwhile, dropped its third straight game.
