Jeonbuk Hyundai snapped a long losing streak.
Jeonbuk Hyundai defeated Gwangju FC 3-0 in the 13th round of the 2024 Hana Bank K League 1 at the Gwangju Football Stadium at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
Jeonbuk took the lead in the 27th minute through Song Min-kyu’s first goal of the day. Jeon Byung-kwan, who joined Jeonbuk ahead of the season, then scored back-to-back goals in the 31st minute and one minute into the second half. With this, Jeon has now scored four goals this season, making him the top goal scorer in Jeonbuk.
After being down by three goals, Gwangju pushed Jeonbuk in search of an equalizer. However, they had no luck, as Uhm Ji Sung’s fantastic shot hit the post. However, Jeonbuk’s defense, including goalkeeper Jung Min-ki, threw themselves into the game to keep a clean sheet and stop Gwangju’s total offense.
In the end, Jeonbuk held on for the win and three points. The victory over Gwangju snapped a three-game losing streak for Jeonbuk, who had lost three straight games prior to the match. It also marked the first clean sheet for Jeonbuk in K League 1 this season.
It was the visitors who had the last laugh in the 13th round of the 2024 Hana Bank K League 1 match between FC Seoul and Daegu FC at Sangam World Cup Stadium on the same day.
Seoul started Jesse Lingard after he returned from injury. Lingard, who has been the talk of the town since joining the club, finally made his K League 1 debut.
However, he didn’t make much of an impact. Instead, Seoul fell apart as they made some costly mistakes. Ulsan fought back and had an equalizer from Lee Min-gyu, but it was disallowed. In the end, Gangwon secured all three points, while Ulsan suffered a shocking second straight loss.
Suwon FC, meanwhile, earned a 1-0 victory over Pohang Steelers in the 13th round of the 2024 Hana Bank K League 1 at Suwon Sports Complex at 7 p.m. on Sept. 19.
The winning goal was scored by Jung Seung-won. Suwon head coach Kim Eun-joong introduced Lee Seung-woo at the start of the second half, and the effect was immediate. In the first minute of the second half, Lee played a sharp penetrating pass to Andersson, who was penetrating into the box. Andersson then passed the ball to Jeong Seung-won, who finished it off in front of the goal.
Pohang’s offense continued afterward, but they were unable to find the equalizer. Suwon earned a comfortable win against the leaders, while Pohang suffered their second loss of the season.
