Seoul E-Land head coach Kim Do-gyun was disappointed with his team’s decision-making but pleased with their overall performance.
Seoul E-Land lost 0-1 to FC Seoul in the third round of the 2024 Hana Bank Korea Cup at Mokdong Sports Complex on Sunday.
It was a hard-fought match for Seoul Eland. With the weekend league match in mind, Seoul E-Land decided to rotate all players except Kim Min-kyu and Kim Jae-bae. They basically settled into a 5-4-1 formation and aimed to get the ball to the front line as quickly as possible.
Unfortunately, it didn’t work. Despite running the same rotation, FC Seoul actually had more quality than Seoul Eiland. Seoul E-Land players had several shots on goal, but they were unable to rattle the net due to poor zoning.
Kim expressed his disappointment. “Although we lost at home, the players who had fewer chances played their best,” he said at the post-match press conference. There were some aspects of our performance that were lacking and we made mistakes. However, I want to praise the players for creating several good chances against FC Seoul. It was a game where we tried our best but felt we were not good enough,” said Kim.
“Decision-making was definitely the difference. There was a slight difference in control in terms of touching the ball and developing the offense. I think we made more mistakes in the first game than in the K League 1. We had players who didn’t have chances, and that was disappointing. On the positive side, there were a lot of attacking tactics and patterns in the game that we had prepared tactically since the winter. I think we are getting better and better in the league. I think we’ll be a better team if we can finish,” he said, adding that he is confident that if we can finish better, we can get better results.
He wasn’t too worried about the six-match winless streak. Seoul Eland hasn’t won since March 10 against Suwon Samsung in the league and Korea Cup combined. They did beat 토토사이트 Daejeon Korail in the Korea Cup to reach this round, but that was a penalty shootout win, so the official record is a draw.
“We won the first two games, and we’re winless, including the Korea Cup. As I said in my previous interview, we drew or missed a lot of games that we should have won. On a positive note, our chances have gotten much better with each passing game. Even in the last game against Seongnam, we drew, but we created close to 10 chances. The challenge is to score goals. I don’t feel like the atmosphere is bad yet. We have new people and a lot of players have changed. Taking that into account, I think we’re doing okay. I think the results will be better in the future,” he emphasized.
Finally, on the condition of Bruno Silva, who was injured during the game, he said: “He’s okay, he’s got a bad thumb. He felt like he was going to die, but when the ball came, he played well. We’ll see, but I don’t think it’s a big problem,” he laughed.
