Suwon FC defeated Incheon United 1-0 in the first round of the Hana Bank K League 1 2024 at the Incheon Football Stadium at 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 2.
The theater goal came in the last minute. In the sixth minute of second-half stoppage time, Yoon Beom-garam was tripped inside the penalty box. After an on-field review, the referee awarded a penalty kick. Lee Seung-woo stepped up to the spot kick and converted to the bottom left corner.
“The first game is the hardest because it’s the first game, and we had a lot of changes in our team, so I was concerned about the organization. 텍사스홀덤 I think the players prepared better than I thought, and I think the fact that we waited and didn’t give up even though we were away was a factor in our victory.”
Compared to last season, the defense has definitely improved, but the offense has become a concern. “Suwon FC‘s offense was so good, so I was thinking about that part. Our defense wasn’t good last year, so we worked a lot on organization in defense. Of course, we might lack offense, but I’m not worried about that. Whether we score one goal or three, three points are the same. We need to win as many games as possible so the players can gain confidence.”
Lee Seung-woo was the penalty kicker. “I decided on a few players,” Kim said. (Lee) Seung-woo is a resource for our team who should play from the first half, but we strategically put him in the second half because it was an away game. I gave him one motivation. He’s in his prime, but he feels distant from the national team. There was a national team official on the field, so I told him that he had a chance to give it another shot and to give everything when he came on. When the penalty kick came, I told Seung-woo to kick it,” he explained.
He continued with his assessment of Seung-woo’s movements, saying, “It’s still not 100% of what I saw. However, when he dribbled solo in the game, he was in good shape and he was definitely motivated. I trained hard in the winter and never took a day off. I think he will score more goals this year than last year.”
The next home game is against league powerhouse Jeonbuk Hyundai. “We have to prepare strategically. I don’t know about anything else, but I think we need to be more aggressive at home. Jeonbuk Hyundai is the strongest team in the league, so we will have to focus on attacking and defending them in our preparation,” he said.
On his first victory as Suwon FC manager, he said, “A lot of people said it was my debut, but it didn’t feel awkward at all. It was a friendly feeling. It was my first time playing or coaching at Suwon FC, but when I came, I felt like I was part of the old team without any awkwardness. There was nothing like that about the debut,” he said.
The theater victory was a thrilling three points. “I told the players to be patient. It’s the first game, so we just have to be as patient as we can, wait and do what we’ve been preparing for, and then our chances will come, and I think that was the perfect timing at the end,” he said.
