Women’s professional basketball teams Cheongju KB and Asan Woori Bank have won back-to-back games at the Park Shinjah Cup 2023.
KB defeated Bucheon Hana OneQ 61-53 in the second game of the tournament’s Group B on Sunday at Cheongju Gymnasium in Chungcheongbuk-do.
It was the second straight win for KB, who defeated Aeneos Sunflowers (JPN) 94-68 in the first game the previous day.
Hana WonQ lost their first game of the tournament.
Park Ji-soo led KB to victory with a “double-double” performance, scoring a game-high 26 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.
KB’s “shooter,” Kang Isul, was held to just four points, but grabbed 12 rebounds in the win.
After a three-pointer by Heo Ye-eun and two free throws by Park Ji-soo at the start of the third quarter, KB pulled away midway through the quarter with a mid-range basket by Kim Ye-jin off an assist from Park Ji-soo and a paint-zone basket by Park Ji-soo to extend the lead to 10 points, 45-35.
With just over three minutes left in the quarter and KB’s “two guns” Park Ji-soo and Kang Yi-eul resting side by side, Hana OneQ stormed back to pull within 43-47 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, with Park Ji-soo and Kang Yi-eul back on the court, KB made another run.
Park Ji-soo scored under the basket between two defenders and made the extra free throw to give KB a double-digit lead, 54-43, with just over seven minutes left in the game.
Park Ji-soo continued to entertain the fans with a cool uppercut serenade.
With just over three minutes left, Park hit a three-pointer from the right side of the court to make it 59-46, and she was all smiles again.
In Group A, Woori Bank won 76-67 over Samsung Life in Yongin.
It was the second straight win for Woori, who had defeated Toyota Antelopes (Japan) 93-90 the day before.
Samsung Life suffered a loss in its first game of the tournament.
Park Ji-hyun led the way for Woori with a double-double of 28 points and 10 rebounds.
Woori took a 58-56 lead early in the fourth quarter with back-to-back three-pointers from Na Yoon-jung and Yoo Seung-hee. Both baskets came off assists from Park Ji-hyun.
The Japanese teams chorused their victories side by side on the day.
In Group A, Toyota defeated Incheon Shinhan Bank 98-50.
After finishing the first quarter with a 23-13 lead, Toyota dominated the rest of the way.
Umezawa Kadisha scored a game-high 20 points for both teams, while Miyashita Kiho added 19 points and nine rebounds for Toyota.
For Shinhan Bank, only Kim Sonia (15 points) scored in double figures.
Toyota held a huge 32-23 advantage in team rebounds and 30-12 in team assists.
In Group B, Eneos defeated Busan BNK 82-77.
Former WNBA player Ramu Tokashiki scored a team-high 14 points to lead Eneos to victory.
