DB welcomes KT at home
The Wonju DB Promise will host the Suwon KT Sonic Boom in the third round of the 2023-2024 Korean Basketball Association regular season on Sunday at Wonju General Gymnasium.
The top-ranked DB is currently 18-4 with a 2.5-game lead in second place. However, in their last game, they were swept by 안전카지노사이트 KCC in Busan.
Coach Kim Joo-sung said, “Regardless of our performance, we lost in the end because of things like rebounding, which has been a concern in the past. We focused on rebounding in practice. I expect the players to show a different side. For whatever reason, I think our energy dropped a bit. It’s something we were worried about, but hopefully we can overcome it.”
One of the keys to DB’s dominance has been their lack of losing streak. They have yet to lose a game this season.
“We’ve been doing well, but we were showing signs. I didn’t have a good grasp on it. I’m glad we don’t have a losing streak, but I hope the players realize that. I hope they can find their strength and find their old form once again.”
The DB rotation has changed with the return of Yoo Hyun-joon and Doo Kyung-min. Park In-woong’s usage in the fourth quarter of the last game was also reduced.
“Yoo Hyun-joon and Doo Kyung-min came in, so I couldn’t play Park In-woong much when I tried to guess the composition of the other team. I’m not usually the type of person who adjusts a lot depending on the opponent, but this time I’m thinking of starting Park In-woong. I think it’s a process of learning as I use such members anyway. It’s important to keep using them and make them fit together.”
The performance of the DBs also depends a lot on the performance of captain Kang Sang-jae.
Coach Kim said, “He’s not a one-on-one player, but a bridge player who rebounds, runs fast, and catches the ball. I think he played a timid game due to his nose injury. He recognized it well and still tried to play through the injury, so I’m grateful for that. It’s not necessarily that Kang Sang-jae is sluggish, but when the balance is broken one by one, it expands to multiple players. His nose has a small crack at the end, but I thought he might be anxious, so we had a meeting. I don’t know how much he’s going to get over it, but I know he’s going to give it his best shot.”
Dedrick Lawson, the centerpiece of the DB offense, struggled a bit in the last game. His shooting percentage dropped to 33.3% as he struggled against the defense. Kim also considered playing Jeff Widdie, who hasn’t been playing badly, for longer.
“I thought about using Jeff Weedie more in the LG Electronics game and the KCC game. Just as we have to actively rotate our sixth man, we also have to be bold with Withy, and he did a good job against KT, so we’re going to actively use him today. Lawson needs to keep his form up in good times and bad. Trust in Option 1. I recognize that Lawson could lose the game, and I don’t blame him. As a result, we’ve won games where he’s been off and we’ve lost games where we’ve been outrebounded, so we’ve emphasized that to him.”
