Hanwha Eagles head coach Kim Kyung-moon smiled for the first time at home.

Hanwha won 4-1 at home against SSG Landers on Saturday at Hanwha Life Eagles Park in Daejeon. Hanwha snapped a three-game losing streak and picked up its 30th win of the season (D2, L37). Fifth-ranked SSG saw its three-game winning streak come to an end, dropping to 37-1-33 on the season.

Kim Kyung-moon earned his first win as head coach in Daejeon. Kim Kyung-moon, who took over as head coach on March 3, had managed 11 matches before this one, going 5-1-1 with five draws. Coincidentally, the team went 5-1-1 in away matches against Suwon and Jamsil, while going 1-1-4 at home.

This was Kim Kyung-moon’s sixth game at home since taking over. All 12,000 seats at Hanwha Life Eagles Park were sold out at 5:19 p.m., 19 minutes after kickoff. It was the 27th time this season that the club set a new single-season record for most sellouts. Hanwha has now sold out 27 of 35 games.

SSG’s starting pitcher is Park Jong-hoon. He has struggled this season, going 1-3 with a 7.48 ERA in eight games. He came back from the Futures League reloaded, but failed to rebound after giving up three runs on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts in 2⅔ innings.

With neither team scoring in the first and second innings, Hanwha broke the silence in the bottom of the third. Lee Do-yoon and Lee Won-seok both singled, and Jang Jin-hyuk walked. With the bases loaded, Park Jong-hoon faltered and back-to-back wild pitches were thrown, giving Hanwha a 2-0 lead. Ahn Chi-hong followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.

Hanwha added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Two batters later, Choi In-ho drew a walk and Moon Hyun-bin followed with a double to right-center to make it 4-0.

SSG put runners on first and second with one out in the top of the eighth after Choi Ji-hoon walked and Choo Shin-soo singled, and Heredia’s RBI single broke the scoreless streak. Hanwha brought in closer Joo Hyun-sung early, and he struck out Han Yu-seom on three pitches to end the inning.
