Jose Mourinho has predicted the outcome of Euro 2024.
“Mourinho has picked Portugal as his favorite team to win Euro 2024,” the Mirror reported on June 13 (KST).
In an interview with British media outlet TNT Sports, Mourinho said, “I think Portugal will win the tournament. They are probably stronger than any other team. The team that will do surprisingly well will be the team other than Portugal, France, and England. I think Portugal, France, and England are the best teams. The MVP of the tournament will be Jude Bellingham.”
Portugal is a strong favorite to win the tournament, along with England and France. Portugal’s strength is that they have depth in every position. Diogo Costa will be in goal for Portugal, while Pepe and Jubeng Dias are still in great form. The fullbacks include João Cancelo, Nuno Mendes, and Diogo Dalot.
Portugal has a good midfield balance. João Palinha, who plays a defensive role, Bitinha, who is a big help on both sides of the ball, and Bruno Fernandes, who can put in attacking passes, are a fantastic combination. The forward line is also a threat. Cristiano Ronaldo, Bernardo Silva, Raphael Varane, and João Felix are all capable of scoring goals.
Since winning Euro 2016, Portugal has had a string of disappointments at major tournaments. They finished in the round of 16 at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the quarterfinals at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. At Euro 2020, they were knocked out in the round of 16 by Belgium. With this likely to be Ronaldo’s last Euro, Portugal will be going all out to win the tournament.
Bellingham, meanwhile, is one of the tournament’s most highly-touted players. Bellingham was world-class in a Real Madrid shirt last season. Should Bellingham’s England win the tournament, he will likely be in the running for the 2024 Ballon d’Or. Add a Euro title to the mix, and Bellingham will have his best year yet in 2024.
